WILLIAMSPORT — Harold Gene Cronkhite, 79, Williamsport, died at 2:51 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 in VA Illiana Healthcare System, Danville, Ill. He had been hospitalized four days. He was born Oct. 10, 1922 in Pence, Warren County, the son of Samuel and Cora Kidwell Cronkhite. He married Florence Ruby Brown in 1944 in New York. She preceded in death in 1973. He was a resident of Warren County most of his life and had lived in Utah and in Williamsport since 1985. He graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1940. He was a metal finisher in a machine shop in Valtek, Utah. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Attica VFW Post #3318 and Williamsport American Legion Post #259. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and going to the Senior Center in Williamsport with his dear friend, Annabelle Swick. Survivors include. two sons, Edward Cronkhite, Fullterton, Calif. and Dale Cronkhite, Crawfordsville; a daughter, Susan (Vance) Glavis, Windover, Neb.; a brother, Everett Cronkhite, West Lebanon; a close friend, Annabelle Swick, Williamsport; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Victor Russell Cronkhite; two brothers and six sisters. Funeral services were at noon Friday in Grady Funeral Home, Williamsport, with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial was in Danville National Cemetery with full military gravesite rites. – jlr
